Wheatgrass Cocktail
Wheatgrass (winter wheat) once juiced, features what some regard to be one of the more complete foods, being rich in chlorophyll and offering complete protein. Its proponents argue that the vitamin content of this juice is a powerful antioxidant and rich in enzymes to help promote a healthier lifestyle.
Detox Vegan Diet

Eastern cultures have long recommended routine cleansings to flush out the toxins that accumulate in our bodies. These detox programs go through an intense five to 21 days. As beneficial as they are, you will probably have some uncomfortable side effects.

A detox raw vegan diet can have violent and uncomfortable cleansing reactions in the early stages. These include flu-like symptoms, acne, headaches, fatigue, digestive disruptions and sweating. Your level of discomfort will depend on how toxic and sensitive your system is.

Start your detox by eating fresh, whole organic foods and drinking purified water. Favor vegetarian foods that are light, warm, cooked and easily digestible. Freshly made flat breads, freshly made light soups, organic vegetables cooked with spices, and freshly made grains. Light nutritious whole grains such as quinoa, barley, millet, oats and small helpings of brown rice are best.

Drink plenty of warm or hot water through the day. This will help flush toxins out of your body. Herbal teas are also satisfying.

Try to eat a lot of cooked leafy greens. You can chop and cook them with detoxifying spices. Other vegetables you should include are brussel sprouts, cabbage, watercress, carrots, onions, garlic, sweet potatoes, lentils and beans, nuts and seeds, kale, and peppers. Mung bean soup is also nutritious, yet easy to digest.

Fruit is also important in a detox vegan diet. Try cooked prunes and figs, stewed apples or pears, and most sweet juicy fruits. These fruits are cooked because a raw vegan diet can be too hard on your system in the beginning.

Ginger, turmeric, coriander, fennel and fenugreek help flush toxins from your body. Add these spices to soups as they cook, and add to other dishes after the cooking has ended.

Avoid sugar, caffeine, nicotine, alcohol and drugs during your detox. If you take prescribed medication, consult your doctor before beginning any detox program.

When you finish your cleansing program, gradually introduce foods back into your diet, especially heavier foods.

With any detox program, be careful not to go to extremes, since excessive detoxing can make you ill.

Once your system is healthy, keep away from non-organic foods, genetically modified foods, foods grown with pesticides and chemical fertilizers, and foods with additives, since they introduce toxins into your body.

Following a detox vegan diet is not for everyone. Pregnant women, people who are convalescing, preparing for surgery or those with serious medical issues should not detox, since it adds stress to the body. Should you have a chronic health problem, you need a qualified health professional to monitor your progress.
